HAPPY THANKSGIVING!

I hope everyone has a wonderful, relaxing, fun-filled holiday.

Remember, the only homework this week is to choose which book report project you will do next week. I will also send a reading log.  Turn it in after the holiday.

Last week we practiced comparing and contrasting using Venn Diagrams.  Students read different versions of Cinderella in the guided reading groups.  Then they worked together to complete a Venn Diagram.  The next day we read a book about African American Inventors as a whole group.  Again they worked together to make Venn Diagrams.  This higher level thinking activity went well!  Here are a few pictures of some of the groups working together.

In math we continue to work on money.  Last week students went through the grocery store fliers and chose four foods to put on a plate.  Then they showed which coins they would use to pay for the items.  Finally, they added up the total cost of the meal.  It was fun to see what items they chose.  You have some savvy shoppers!  This would be a great thing for them to do again over break if you get the chance.  Here are a few pictures of our bargain hunters planning their meals!

We are reading Molly's Pilgrim this week as a class.  This great little novel is about a Russian immigrant who learns about Thanksgiving.  Her classmates learn that pilgrims are anyone who moves to a new land.
