- A permission slip went home. No chaperones needed. We are going to see the play Bud, not Buddy based on the book by Christopher Paul Curtis. This play is the culmination of our Treasures unit on creating art. It is also in celebration of Black History Month.
- Homework: Before your child starts the writing assignment ask about what a beginning should do for a story. Ask about the middle and end, too.
- Conference schedule: Please look it over. If you haven't signed up for a conference, please do so right away.
We are working on drawing conclusions this week. We will take our end of the unit assessment this week and next.
Writing
The students are practicing using "strong" verbs this week in centers. This means they are trying to use descriptive verbs. Ask your child for a strong verb that means the same as "went" or "eat". Try other verbs, too!
Math
Students are practicing making ballpark estimates in math in order to check addition. Students are also practicing adding 2 digit numbers mentally. Wow! This group of students is amazing! They really have great mental math strategies.
Social Studies
We learned about the three branches of government. We are also learning about democracy. We'll be starting a google presentation on Friday about the three branches of government.
