MAP Scores:
By now you should have seen the MAP scores that came home Monday in the large envelope.  Please let me know if you have any questions about these scores or the test itself.  I had hoped to discuss these with you at conferences, but since there were some questions about the validity, we were asked to wait.

LEXILE SCORES:
Please note on the MAP report your child's Lexile Score.  This score is handy when choosing books for your child.  Use the Lexile link to the left.  Here's how it works.
  • Once you click the link you will see on the top right corner a "search" field.  You can type in the book your child wants to read and determine if it is in their Lexile range.  If it is in the range-then the book is appropriate for your child.  Too high?  Read it with them.  Too low? Encourage them to read it, enjoy it, and then choose a book more on their level.
  • Let's say you want to find books in your child's level.  Use the prompts to select interests and genres.  Then type in your child's Lexile range.  It will pull up a list of books at your child's level.
  • If your child is in the BR range, no problem.  Go ahead and type in level 0-100.
Research shows that children who read books at their level make more progress than children who read books above or below their level.  We'll take the MAP test again in January and get updated Lexile ranges.
