Dates to Remember:
October 2nd-Picture Day! Forms are in folders today!
October 3rd-Walk to School day. Get out those walking shoes. Kids who don't have a chance to walk to school can walk during lunch.
October 8th-No School for Columbus Day.
Homework: Thank you for your patience this week if the homework is incomplete or if spelling is mixed up! It is hard to be out on a Monday. Just send me an email if you notice something is not right. Homework was differentiated this week. As I get to know the kids even better, you should notice that the homework can be done independently, with just a little parent support.
Reading: Next week we will begin our Route to Reading program. We will meet for 3 weeks and then your child will be re-assessed. Groups will meet 3 times a week for 40 minutes. We are also working on the comprehension strategy of identifying the main idea of a selection.
Writing: We wrote descriptive stories about a special friend. We used the strategy of starting our story with a question. Those stories are being published this week. We are also writing letters to pen pals at Beye School. After writing to them all year we will get the chance to meet our pen pals in the spring.
Math: We completed unit 1 in our math books and are beginning unit 2. You will receive your child's math assessment by Friday. We took a pretest on Monday to determine which children need additional review and which children need more of a challenge.
I promised on curriculum night a list of math apps. I am working on getting that list to you by the end of the week.
Finally, thanks to all of you who ordered books! I was able to use points to buy 12 new books for the classroom! Awesome! As soon as I get this order in I'll send out another catalog.
