October 9-13

I hope everyone had a wonderful long weekend.

Conferences
I look forward to seeing all of you at conferences.  Please be sure to arrive on time for your conference as many are scheduled back to back.  If you have any questions or concerns please let me know ahead of time so I can be fully prepared!

Book Report Projects
Your child came home with a short packet explaining a book report project.  Please look over the project choices and help your child choose a book and project.  The project is due next Friday.  There will be no packet next week. In short:
  • The project should take no more time than the regular homework packet.
  • Your child will need your help gathering supplies and organizing ideas.  Once they get started they should be able to do it INDEPENDENTLY.
  • The most important part of this project is choosing a book with enough substance for them to talk about while doing the projects.  It can be a chapter book or a sophisticated picture book.  They understand that the book can be a book that was read to them or with them.
Fun Run!
The Fun Run is next Tuesday, October 16th.  This is an important fund raiser for our school and supports many of the things we do in our classroom!  We are hoping that each child is able to raise $30 in pledges for their efforts!  It should be a fun day!

Book Fair
The book fair runs next week.  It is always a great opportunity to stock up on books.  If you can wait until after conferences, I'll give you a few tips for choosing a good book for your child.

Math
Unit 2 is all about fact power!  Be sure to log in to xtra math at home.  It is such a quick and helpful tool  that helps your child practice those facts.  Flashcards are great, too!  The goal for second grade is to be able to complete 75 addition and 75 subtraction facts in 5 minutes.
